God sends the snow

I know - snow brings mixed reviews.  Some love it and some hate it, depending on your point of view.  Seeing it reminds me of just a few years ago, driving in blizzard conditions (on several occasions) to get to work.  Back when I was working full-time as a nurse, my 45 minute drive could easily end up being 2 hours on those tricky snow covered hills and back roads of Pennsylvania.  I definitely dreaded the forecast of snow on days when I had to drive in it.

But fast forward to last night.  We went to bed, knowing that the next day would be one of those "ministry days."  And you pastors wives know what I mean.  The kind where you kiss him goodbye early in the morning knowing full well the next time you will rendezvous will be late that night.

When he is tired. . .and emotionally exhausted.

Don't get me wrong, we consider it a privilege to serve the Lord in ministry.  And when it is all said and done, we strive to use these days to learn to lean on Him more and more, trusting Him, drawing our strength from Him.

But then it snowed this morning.

And for a little while, we are given a reprieve as the world slows down.  The normally slightly busy highway in front of our house is starkly empty as the snow falls.

Funny how God sends the snow isn't it?  Just when we need a few minutes to catch our breath and take in the fresh, clean air - and stop to consider that we really are not in control.  When our life seems out of control we realize that He was the One holding our world in the palm of His hand.

So as we pray for safety for our friends, family, and loved ones who are on these slippery roads, we acknowledge that we are held by our loving, sovereign God.
