Book Review: Organic Outreach for Families by Kevin G Harney and Sherry Harney

Organic Outreach for Families: Turning Your Home Into a Lighthouse shares the simple story of a sweet family that lives out the Great Commission in a very natural (a.k.a. organic) way.  You will be touched and inspired as you read the portions by the mom, dad, and even small sections by each of their three young adult sons.

The book is divided into three parts: Reaching your own family, raising children of light in a dark world, and turning your home into a lighthouse.  I appreciate their emphasis on reaching your own children and families first.  The Harneys wanted their lives to be accurate reflections of their Savior, and endeavored to share Him with others often.

The book is full of practical advice for making your home a “lighthouse” in the community.  I would say that this section is the strength of the book.   Many people want to create the kind of home/atmosphere that the Harneys have created, but struggle with how to do it.  They give concrete suggestions that you can put into action.

Though I appreciated the content of the book and the obvious desire of the Harneys for the Gospel to be spread in a very natural way through our homes, I found the book to be lacking in new and insightful material.

I give the book 4 out of 5 stars.

I received a free copy of the book from Zondervan through the Booksneeze program in exchange for a fair and honest review.
